\na sacred bundle<\/p>\n

This sacred bundle passed down to me
\nHolds special items\u2014 a powerful legacy
\nThrough Blackfoot ceremony I learned
\nA sense of the mortals whose tools I earned<\/p>\n

In a four-day fast, deprived of food, of drink
\nThe importance of life is what I must think
\nA rite of passage filled with suffering
\nUp all night, I must remain standing<\/p>\n

I bear witness to ancestors\u2019 cautions
\nVow and undertake their path and passions
\nWith a vision of the past, I live in the present
\nTo give love and guidance to all I\u2019ve met.<\/p>\n

I vow to observe our native customs
\nHonour in my life all of the sacred items
\nThe bundle holds many secrets I cannot share
\nIn the sacred space, I do not dare.<\/p>\n

Carrying my bundle, I fall into a trance
\nAs I honour my creator I both walk and dance
\nDo not look at me, do not break my stride
\nCaring for sacredness requires sole, humbled pride.<\/p>\n

The sap of the mighty oak runs through my veins
\nWith leaves trembling like aspen as I traverse the plains
\nMy cheeks feel the wind from an eagle\u2019s feather dropped
\nRemind me to soar higher in a sacred journey I cannot stop<\/p>\n
