{"id":645,"date":"2010-05-06T20:51:30","date_gmt":"2010-05-07T02:51:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/melacey.com\/blog\/?p=645"},"modified":"2010-05-07T22:58:49","modified_gmt":"2010-05-08T04:58:49","slug":"burmis-tree-photos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/melacey.com\/blog\/art\/photos\/burmis-tree-photos\/","title":{"rendered":"Golden Burmis"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Golden Burmis<\/h1>\nngg_shortcode_0_placeholder\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\">The sun is behind the <em>Burmis Tree<\/em> as it goes down behind the Rocky mountains around 8:45 p.m. (mst) August 13, 1998. \u00a0Overseeing motorists often blast their horns in applause to my photographic honour of this sentinel.This tree is believed to be 735 years old; it lost its needles in 1978. \u00a0It is perched on a ridge near the towns of Frank, Bellevue, and Hillcrest, along Highway 3, in Southern Alberta, Canada, in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. \u00a0It has been a landmark for me throughout my many journeys between Alberta and B.C., \u00a0through the Crowsnest Pass. I have often stopped to grab a picture while I still could, but this August trip was made for the express purpose of getting just the right pictures. \u00a0The tree was toppled by high November winds in 1998. \u00a0I now understand the sense of urgency to get pictures of it that year.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<h3>Related Images:<\/h3><div class=\"ngg-related-gallery\">\n\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/melacey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/ab\/05burmis2.jpg?t=1418541301\"\n\t\t\ttitle=\"Last Hurrah is my most popular image. A number of posters will be made available where she launches her book beginning April 2, 2004 in Lethbridge, Alberta.  Visit the publisher&#039;s website for information on the publication and to obtain launch details.  \r\nOn March 15, 2004, news media in Southern Alberta quickly spread word that the beloved tree was vandalized.
