Spring:\u00a0 Ode to Twitter
\nMixed media, co-polymer
\n2009<\/p>\n

Technology and nature intertwine in this multimedia collage. Bird-like tree branches flow in one direction and as is the case with most Southern Alberta trees, it leans. Three Twitter-inspired bird icons hang from the branches.\u00a0 Motivated by the wiring of the Burmis Tree<\/a>, a metal cylinder, an old laser printer part, forms a shortened fourth branch of the tree where a small owl<\/a> is perched.<\/p>\n

artist-made nest, eggs, egg shells, baby birds and parent Robin<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The piece features a co-polymer male robin sculpture and an artist-created bird\u2019s nest housing three eggs and two baby robins with their broken shells. \u00a0 (There is no mom.)<\/p>\n

tree masque<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The birds that hang from the tree, rather than being a part of the tree, I created from porcelain and are inspired from Twitter icons. \u00a0They are not meant to reflect a real bird; they are tech birds. \u00a0I guess I’m a tech bird too, but as an introvert, I use the tree as a masque.<\/p>\n
