Gary and the Beatles

Beatle Suit

Albert and Gary Lacey
Albert Edward Lacey and Gary Elvin Lacey
(wearing a Beatle suit)

Here, Gary is standing beside grandpa Albert Lacey wearing the collarless gray Beatle jacket that he was so proud of.

Many cousins were born at the same time in the Lacey family and many with a shared interest in the Beatles as they were young teenagers when Beatle mania hit the world.

Beatle Mania

1964 Letter from Edie Page to Albert and Elsie Lacey
Edie Page writes to her brother’s family in 1964, talking about cousins’ interest in the Beatles.

Here is a portion of an air mail letter, written on March 11th, by Edie (Edith Alice Violet Lacey Page) addressing her brother Albert and sister-in-law, Elsie.  (Albert and Elsie are Gary’s grandparents.)

Roy received a letter from your grandson Barry, did you know that he has “Beatle” mania, we’ve had it for months. Roy doesn’t go in for wigs or the hair style a lot of the London teenagers do tho the “Beatles” are very good. Barry seems to be doing well with his band. Roy has some books he is sending and is writing to him tomorrow. I’ll try and get some of the other things he wants but there is not so many of them about now there is more in the USA because the Beatles have just come back from there. The girls were wearing wigs a long time ago it was all the craze. they were 25 pounds each. Well enough of that.

Son, Jimmy sings “In My Life” at Gary’s service.

In My Life

Lennon/McCartney

Track #3 on the 1965 Beatles album Rubber Soul.

There are places I remember
All my life, though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain

All these places had their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I’ve loved them all

But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new

Though I know I’ll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I’ll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more

Though I know I’ll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I’ll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more

In my life I love you more
