Have you seen Alberta, as March winds roar over prairie stage?
There’s a scent of spring’s incense amid a snarl of wintery rage.
Blossoms of purple crocuses wildly challenge a northern icy slope;
Their pale petals present the season that persuades a life to hope.
Manitoba’s official flower, the prairie crocus/anemone,or pasqueflower (S5, Native, G5) is one of Lethbridge’s earliest native spring flowers. The white-hairy native plant flowers before the development of regular leaves. The flowering-stalk is short (2–3″) when flowering, then lengthens. Typically flowers in mid April to early May.
