Harold Bloom
Here is Harold Bloom’s April 20, 20112 presentation at Yale University, where he expounds on Yahweh, Hamlet, Cleopatra, Falstaff, being and the Bard of Avon. This was a culminating lecture of “Shakespeare at Yale” a term-long Shakespeare festival.
Gender in Shakespeare
Charlie Rose’s 1998 interview with Harold Bloom, of Yale, illustrates Shakespeare’s treatment of men and women. Bloom talks of Shakespeare’s fierce perception: “Where else do you learn that the ultimate difference between men and women is that on the whole, women are compelled to marry down not because of social convention, not because of social constriction, but simply because for the most part, the best among them are better than the best among us.”
